Lagarde's departure could create uncertainty in foreign‑exchange markets, which tends to increase euro‑dollar volatility. Traders may react to the prospect of a new ECB president whose monetary‑policy stance remains undefined.
In sovereign‑bond markets, a potential shift in the ECB's strategy could affect euro‑area yields, with a tendency toward upward or downward adjustments depending on the perceived direction of future policy. Investor focus might also move toward safe‑haven assets such as the dollar or gold if the transition is seen as a risk.
